This project has been subject to a few problems perhaps due to timing, it being the last project of the year but also the group who worked on it. The group of three had its own inherent difficulties wherebye one person was reluctant to give ideas or any opinion on any ideas generated by anyone else. The other member was absent and difficult to have meaningful contact with despite being capable of so much. That said and done, documenting the creative process for this project has been hard for me because of my own limitations on time.

The “Current” brief we decided on was a challenge as “Current” seemed to lack a sense of self and individual identity which many organisations make big efforts to acquire. Researching their website and TV channel did reveal some continuity but overall we got the impression that  they didn’t know what they were about and who they were talking to.

The brief asked for a one minute promo spot which would be set around the idea of participation to boost publicly generated content.

“We” decided on the idea of the cyclical nature of user made content. This involved people taking inspiration from things they watch online and in turn creating something themselves which they then participate in and then upload. I liked the idea of the public being involved, motivated by the idea of fun or something with some idealistic merit.

The feel of the promo spot would be akin to amatuer internet content which reflected what ”Current” was trying to encourage. Humour is maybe a preferable way to get the message across.

The content of the clip was a simple metaphor for users generating content for current, and this was turned in to electrical current being  generated by the public with a different look on an everyday activity which in this case was riding a bike to create electricity.

The clip also has a suggestive part at the end which points to people living inside the block of flats taking part in making the Current text display on the outside of their builiding by flicking their flat lights on or off at the right time. The idea being that they all participate including the man making the electrcity, to make the sign up.

In terms of learning from this project on what I can improve on, I would say I would need to find ways of pulling the group together although the responsibility for this should be equal. I would also have to provide entirely original video content and typographically look at more examples of appropriate text to end the clip on. Documentation of the narrative of the design process on this project is also lacking which I will need to get to grips with.

In terms of the end result though, I am satisfied and I do think that it communicates to the right people.
